Preparations for the upcoming season are in full swing. After 2 years of COVID-19 pandemic, the announcements of tourist arrivals for the upcoming summer and its post-season are great, but there is a lack of workers in many sectors. Seasonal workers in tourism have been among the most popular ones on the labor market for years. Croatia is breaking tourism records, new hotels are being built with investments worth millions of dollars, as the number of guests and exmployees is contiunously growing.
If you're in a search for a seasonal job, Zaposlena.hr provides an overview of seasonal jobs available at our market.
Lack of labor
In the upcoming season, Croatia could break tourist records again, but the tourism sector still lacks a large number of workers. Who will welcome and serve the numerous guests if the employers can't find a quality and realiable workforce? Employers' search for tourism workers starts already in January so that everything is ready to welcome the guests.
As there are fewer and fewer tourist workers on the market, employers are giving young people and those without previous experience a chance, but also increasing wages. It's very important to know at least one foreign language, and if you know several, you have a greater advantage. Toursit, children and sport animator jobs are very interesting, attractive and well-paid, especially for young people and students; while many employers, hotels and camps are looking for people in that area.
Also, search for quality and experienced receptionists has been giving employers much trouble, so if you are interested into this kind of work, you are communicative and speak foreign language(s), this may be the right thing for you. Even if you have no experince, knowing a language will be of a great help.
Foreign seasonal workers
Waiters, cocktail masters, bartenders and cooks are the most sought-after employees for the upcoming season. Owners of restaurants, hotels and other catering facilites offer paid accomodation, food and a good salary, because the season can't function without those exmployees.
Fruit and vegetable pickers
Seasonal workers in agriculture, such as fruit and vegetable pickers, are increasingly in demand. In Slavonia, Dalmatia and other parts of Croatia, argicultural producers are in a great lack of labor. Strawberry season is just around the corner, so the farmers in the Neretva valley are looking for more people. Employers are looking for workers, but employees also want good, quality conditions and security for themselves and their families.
Seasonal work (or part-time work) is often seen as a second-rate, less desirable option compared to permanent full-time work. However, this doesn't necessarily have to be the case.
Eures presents eight reasons why you should consider seasonal work.
