A digital nomad is a third-country national (a person who is not a citizen of the EEA or the Swiss Confederation) who is employed or carries out business through communication technology for a company or their own company that is not registered in the Republic of Croatia and does not work or provide services to employers in the Republic of Croatia.

Who is a digital nomad?

A digital nomad is a third-country national (a person who is not a citizen of the EEA or the Swiss Confederation) who is employed or carries out business through communication technology for a company or their own company that is not registered in the Republic of Croatia and does not work or provide services to employers in the Republic of Croatia.

Temporary residence is granted for up to one year (possibly shorter), however, temporary residence cannot be extended. After the expiry of the 6-month period from the expiry of the validity of the digital nomad's temporary residence, an application for the re-regulation of the digital nomad's residence can be submitted.

Members of the immediate family can join the digital nomad in the Republic of Croatia if the temporary residence is granted to them.

Do I meet the requirements for digital nomad status?

To meet the requirements for the issuance of a visa for Croatian digital nomads, you must prove that you:

  • Are a citizen of a country that is not a member of the EU/EEA.
  • Have a stable monthly income of around €2,300 (17,822.50HRK) per month. If you want to bring family members with you, an additional €90 (676.30HRK) per month must be shown on your monthly income bank statement.
  • Are a self-employed person or freelancer outside of Croatia.

If you reside in the Republic of Croatia for five years, you acquire the right to permanent residence, which gives you the right to Croatian citizenship.

Requirements for issuing a Croatian Nomad Visa

  • Application form. If you want to apply in person through a Croatian diplomatic mission, print out form 1A.
  • A valid passport. Your travel document must be valid for at least three months beyond the expiration date of your visa for digital nomads.
  • Proof of monthly income. The bank statements you provide must also demonstrate that you earn monthly income as a freelancer or entrepreneur working for a company outside of Croatia. The required monthly income for the Croatian digital nomad visa is €2,300 (17,822.50 HRK).
  • Health insurance. Your health insurance must cover your entire stay in Croatia. • Purpose of visit. You are required to state the reason for your planned visit to Croatia, in this case for the purpose of free work.
  • Clear criminal record. You must submit a certificate of a clean criminal record, which you can obtain in your country.
  • Temporary residence in Croatia. You must provide either a reservation confirmation or a rental agreement with a Croatian landlord.

How to apply for a nomad visa?

A summarized guide for obtaining a Croatian visa for digital nomads is as follows:

  • Determine the application method. Requests for visas for Croatian digital nomads can be made and submitted online through the website of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Croatia or in person through a Croatian embassy or consulate.
  • Fill out the application form. The application form you must submit depends on where you want to apply. If you choose to apply online, the application form is part of the online application, and if you want to apply in person, you must print and fill out form 1A.
  • Check and collect the necessary documents. As with applying for any other type of visa, obtaining a Croatian digital nomad visa also requires meeting certain conditions.
  • Enter Croatia and register your residence. If your digital nomad visa is accepted, you can now enter Croatia. After entering, you are required to register your residence within three days of arrival.
