This is an increase of 0.2 percent, according to the latest data from the Central Bureau of Statistics. However, this is far from the employment we had before the pandemic, because in December 2019 it was 2.2 percent higher than last year.
At the end of December, there were 183,981 employees in crafts and trades and free lances, which is 1,707 or 0.9 percent less than in November. At the annual level, the number of employees in crafts and trades and free lances decreased by 1.4 percent.
One of the few industries that is experiencing higher growth despite the pandemic is construction. Namely, the number of employees in construction increased by 2.4 percent in December, so 101,174 construction workers were employed in Croatia last month. Considering the forced closures of catering facilities, which have been going on for two months now, the biggest drop in employees was recorded there, by as much as three percent.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, the demand for construction workers continues to grow because the volume of construction work is also growing. Last year, our need for construction work increased 4.2 percent compared to the year before. In November, the volume of work performed on buildings was higher by 3.4 percent, and on other buildings by 5.5 percent compared to November a year earlier.
The current situation at the Croatian Employment Service indicates that there are more vacancies in Croatia than there are unemployed. According to the CES, 164,760 jobs are vacant, and 164,511 unemployed are registered on the stock exchange.
