On March 5, 2022, the Croatian Parliament voted to amend the Law on Compulsory Health Insurance and Health Care for Foreigners in the Republic of Croatia, which enables the exercise of the right to health care. According to the amended law, digital nomads will not be obliged to submit an application for compulsory health insurance, but then they will bear the costs of using health care in a health institution, that is, with a private practice health worker or other health care provider.
In order for a digital nomad to be able to work from Croatia, he must provide proof that he has HRK 16,140 per month in his account. Namely, according to the Regulation on the method of calculation and the amount of funds for the maintenance of citizens of a third country, which came into force in mid-February this year, a future digital nomad who wants to stay in Croatia must prove that he has an amount of at least 2.5 average monthly net salaries paid for the previous year. If such a foreign worker wants to stay in Croatia for a year, he must prove that he has an amount of around HRK 194,000 in his bank account. American citizen Melissa Paul received her first visa thanks to the new law that recognizes digital nomads, and currently lives in Labin.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, working from home has become quite common, so more and more workers are thinking about digital nomadism. It is estimated that about 17 million people are thinking about it, and there are currently about 5 million people in the world who fit the definition of a digital nomad.
