Extended weekend or annual leave?
The first holiday of the year, specifically New Year's Day, fell on a Sunday. However, the rest of 2023 leaves plenty of opportunities for combining and planning shorter or longer vacations. Every non-working Tuesday or Thursday is a good opportunity to catch an 'extended weekend', and they can always be used for spending time with family, getting away from the city, or any other 'luxury' you don't usually have time for.
In Croatia, we have 14 holidays and national holidays, of which 10 fall on weekdays in 2023. It may sound like few non-working days in the week compared to some previous years, but they can be used effectively if planned in advance!

What can be "combined"?
New Year's Day, Epiphany, Easter, and Easter Monday are already part of an extended weekend. Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Remembrance Day for the Victims of the Homeland War fall on Saturdays, so we can't "combine" them with anything.
However, Statehood Day, Corpus Christi, Anti-Fascist Resistance Day, and the Assumption of Mary leave room for combining, and with two days off, you can connect All Saints' Day as an extended weekend.
