20.000 young people enrolled for free, intra-EU travel passes

DiscoverEU enables young people to explore Europe.

(BRUSSELS)- Around 20,000 18-year-olds are getting a pass as part of the fourth and final round of DiscoverEU-an opportunity to explore a Europe that has attracted around 75,000 entries from across Europe.
These young Europeans were selected based on established award criteria. Specific quotas of Member States can travel between 1 April and 31 October 2020. up to 30 days.
In addition to the railway, alternative modes of transport, buses, ferries or planes will be provided to ensure access to all continents.
Young people have the opportunity to become DiscoverEU ambassadors and report on their experiences through social media, a channel through which a large number of people can monitor their experiences.
"Travelling through Europe and meeting young people from other countries strengthens intercultural understanding, improves language skills and increases self-confidence," said Commissioner for Education Mariya Gabriel: "Together with solidarity and volunteering activities, funded by the European Solidarity Corps, DiscoverEU is an invaluable initiative for non-formal learning."

Candidates and applications

DiscoverEU is open exclusively to young people who will turn 18 on June 30, 2020. This means that young people born between 1 July 2001 and 30 June 2002 are included.
Applications must be submitted through the European Youth Portal during the application period from Thursday, 12 March 2020, 12:00 h to Thursday, 26 March 2020, 12:00 CET.
