Research Assistant (f/m) - Downstream Vector Preparation

Full-time and permanent, to join the Vectorology Group, to run the up- and downstream processes for viral vector production and contribute to our collaborative work on gene therapy vector generation.

This position covers all aspects of making gene therapy products. The Research Specialist will be involved in the establishment and running of up- and downstream processes for research grade gene therapy vectors. Additionally, he/she will prepare study protocols, and support the generation of research reports and technology transfer documentations. The Research specialist also presents study results and technical developments at team or department meetings.    

  • Support routine downstream vector preparation (FPLC, gradient ultracentrifugation)    
  • Support the implementation and development of downstream processes for research grade (non-GMP) AAV vectors    
  • Filtration and concentration procedures such as Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF).    
  • Support the purification of AAV other vectors and proteins using FPLC (ÄKTA)    
  • Understand project timelines and deliverables and plan/coordinate project work accordingly with supervisor and functional stakeholders  
  • Review and interpret data    


  • You have a BS degree or higher in Biotechnology or similar areas    
  • You have already worked for a couple of years in a process development lab   
  • You have hands-on experience with chromatography (FPLC)    
  • Preferably, you have worked already on recombinant protein or viral vector expression    
  • Experience in standard methods to analyze proteins (SDS-PAGE, Imunnoblotting etc.)    
  • Excellent organizational skills, work on multiple tasks simultaneously, paired with the competence for trouble shooting, and the ability to deliver on time    
  • You are collaborative, helpful, reliable and determined    
  • You have professional language skills in oral and written English and / or German
